LOCATION AND SECURITY ENVIRONMENT CONSIDERATIONS
Choosing a prudent location when securing your eBike is the first step to ensuring property retention.
- Visibility of location?
- Is the location public or private?
- Can you watch the bike from where you are or will be?
- Time of day?
- Durability of object being secured to?
CHOOSING THE APPROPRIATE LOCK
WARNING: All bicycle locking security devices are deterrents and will eventually fail under persistent attack. When choosing a locking security device for your eBike there are several factors to consider.
DURATION AND EXTENT OF SECURITY REQUIRED
30 mins to grab a coffee versus two hours in class? Bicycle security devices are usually rated on a scale of 1-10 regarding the amount of time they are expected to withstand intrusion. Are you securing one or multiple bikes? Do you want to secure just the frame, frame and rear wheel, or frame and both wheels?
Lock Types
Cable Lock: Least secure but also least expensive, lightweight and compact. Depending on length, a typical six ft. cable lock is generally enough to secure one bike frame and both its wheels.

U-Lock(+cable): Highly secure but heavy/bulky. Only effective at locking frame and potentially rear wheel. When combined with a cable the entire bike can be secured

Chain Lock: Highly secure but heavy/bulky. Generally long enough to secure only the frame and rear wheel.

Link Lock: Considered the most secure and compact but expensive. Generally long enough to secure only the frame and rear wheel
