eBike Maintenance Overview
print icon

eBikes should be maintained on a regular basis to ensure a worry-free riding experience. Just as with automobiles, eBikes require regular maintenance to ensure that small issues do not progress into bigger issues that leave you stranded out on the road, or potentially endangered. Below is a list of care basics and a service intervals table. While many of these tasks can be accomplished by the consumer, it is recommended that certain advanced tasks be completed by a certified bike mechanic.

BIKE CARE BASICS & BEST PRACTICES

  • NEVER use a directed/pressurized water or fluid source when washing your eBike. Only use a wet towel and mild cleaner such as Simple Green. Avoid getting cleaner near you hubs and bottom bracket(insert photo)
  • NEVER use classic WD-40 on your eBike. It is an extremely short duration lubricant (too short for bikes). It also contains aggressive solvents (petroleum distillates) that can harm silicone and rubber parts as well as paint finishes. The WD-40 company currently makes a bike specific product which is far more optimal.
  • GEN3 Electric Bikes are not waterproof and should not be submerged in water as this may damage the electrical system. Be sure to store your bike under shelter and avoid leaving it out in the rain. If wet from rain, wipe down to dry. Please note - water damage and corrosion are not covered under warranty.
  • Always re-lubricate immediately after cleaning.
  • Clean and lubricate all moving parts regularly according to the Service Interval table below.
  • Note: If you live and ride in coastal areas, your bike will be exposed to the corrosive effects of salt. This will require you to wipe down your bike more frequently and treat all unpainted and moving parts with anti-rust treatment.
  • Always store your bike in a clean dry place to avoid rust and damage to battery.
  • Keep batteries fully charged when between uses of as much as two weeks apart. See the Battery Storage section on Page 18 for additional information on storing your battery when longer than two weeks between use.
  • If you have the “The Groove” model GEN3 Electric Bike, please ensure the frame latch and handlebar latch are locked in place before riding.
  • Ensure your bike tires are always inflated to a pressure within the recommended range printed on the tire sidewalls. It is recommended to use a bike pump with built-in air pressure gauge to ensure that your tire always has the desired and correct tire pressure.
  • Before each ride ensure all electrical wire connections are secure.
  • Your bike will need to be serviced at regular intervals and after the initial wear-in period – please see our Recommended Ongoing Service schedule section below.
