What is Pedal Assist?
print icon

Pedal assist is an operating mode on electric bikes, our bikes use a cadence sensing pedal assistance.

Our bikes can be used safely in any of the available (0-5) levels of assistance, in any gear you choose.

Want to use your display or headlight but not use assistance from the motor?

You may change the assist level to "0" to turn off pedal/throttle assistance, but still have the bike turned on and ready to change to another assistance level, or to allow for the lights to be on for safety, even when riding without assistance.

Note: Lights can be used at anytime day or night and are suggested for safety and visibility.

When activated (levels 1-5), the motor adds power anytime you are pedaling or using the throttle. This design helps you pedal with less effort than you would experience on a standard bicycle.

Pedal assist bicycles have varied levels of support that will allow you to adjust the input needed compared to the motor output, you may use this to achieve a desired speed, or to assist when riding up inclines or hills.

Our bikes are preset to the following torque ratios: (torque is acceleration and climbing ability)

0 = No pedal assist or throttle, this is the level the bike will start in when the display is turned on, it will start in level "0" as a safety feature so that the bike cannot accelerate and pose a safety risk to the rider.

1 = 40% assistance, based on pedaling input this will assist you up to 9mph on flat ground.

2 = 50% assistance, based on pedaling input this will assist you up to 12mph on flat ground.

3 = 65% assistance, based on pedaling input this will assist you up to 15mph on flat ground.

4 = 85% assistance, based on pedaling input this will assist you up to 18-19mph on flat ground.

5 = 100% assistance, based on pedaling input this will assist you up to 20mph on flat ground.

If using the throttle:

The throttle has varying support based on how much you activate it, if you push it all the way, it will accelerate the bike to full speed. If the throttle is only pushed part way, the throttle will give you a varied assistance based on the throttle position.
